POST # 28 - "HOWLING SUCCESS!" by Angelo Torres

Have you heard the latest? Werewolves are IN this year!
That's good news for horror fans, and I have soooo many wonderful werewolf tales to share with you...

Like this terror-iffic tale by Archie Goodwin and Angelo Torres, from CREEPY # 3, 1965.

  1. Apocolyte: If ever an artist was born for Black and White, it was Torres. Man, those rich and dramatic blacks are just so goddman beautiful! Last page, second panel. As Stan used to say, 'Nuff said! -- Mykal

  2. Mykal,
I agree. In my youth I really enjoyed his satires in MAD, and didn't really put 2 and 2 together about his other fantastic work. Searching through my old Warrens has re-opened my eyes!...I have about a dozen of his stories to run here and they are all superb.

  3. wow-Torres is/was good, we all knew that, but THIS good I didn't know! Wow. On these beautiful B&W pages, he really comes to life. The way he drops out the outline of an object, defining it's shape with shading on something in the background--it elevates the whole work into serious illustration, not just Superman-style comics. One thing I noticed here for the first time...in the final scene, the car has FINS. Did ANY cars on the road still have FINS by the mid-'60s? Maybe Torres was picking up comics drawing where he left off, ten years earlier, when EC folded.
